The itinerary can run two ways:

  • Fly into Skukuza Airport, Kruger National Park, where you will collect your rental car

Day 1 & 2

Enter the Kruger National Park at Paul Kruger Gate and enjoy a late lunch at Skukuza. You can either make your lunch with supplies from the well-stocked camp shop or enjoy a lovely lunch from the take away or relax on the deck and have your meal served to you from the restaurant. The deck has stunning views of the Sabie River. Travel along the H4-1 to Lower Sabie. This takes approximately 2 hours at game viewing speed, along arguably the best road in the south of the park. The road follows the Sabie River and game viewing potential is fantastic.

Arrive in time to check in to your chalet after 2pm. Enjoy a relaxing evening around the camp fire, or dinner at the restaurant on the deck. The camp has a swimming pool where you can relax during the day. You will spend you first two nights here. There are excellent routes to explore in and around Lower Sabie, which will be given to you in your info pack. On the morning of Day 2, will go on a 3-4 hour guided Kruger National Park bushwalk.

Day 3 & 4

Travel back along the H4-1, stopping at Nkuhlu Picnic Site or Skukuza for breakfast. Then follow the H1-3, up to Satara Camp, where you will spend the next two nights. There is a lovely picnic site with a shop and take away section en-route to Satara called Tshokwane, which is the perfect stopping point for a leg stretch and some lunch. Stop off to view the famous Kruger Baobab Tree which is believed to be over 1000 years old.

Satara camp has such a magical feel to it, as the landscape around the camp is vast and open and it is set in the middle of the open bushveld. Check in to your chalet any time from 2pm. At night you will get many animal visitors coming past the camp, and you will be able to view them from the safety of being behind a fence. Satara has a delightful swimming pool area where you can relax during the day. The area is very well known for its Big 5 sightings especially lion, leopard and South Africa’s other big cat, the cheetah. On the second night at Satara, have an early dinner at the camp restaurant and then you will go on a guided Kruger National Park night drive, which gives you an opportunity to view the nocturnal animals, you don’t usually get to see during the day on your self-drives.

Day 5

Travel up to Olifants Camp (where you will spend the next two nights) along the H1-4 where the road is elevated and you can see for miles out into the vast open landscapes. Game viewing and bird watching along this road is excellent. Keep an eye out for Elephants browsing on the trees and our bigger birds such as Ostrich, Kori Bustard and the endangered Southern Ground Hornbill.

Enjoy breakfast the restaurant at Oilfants camp, which is set high up on a granite koppie with spectacular views of the Olifants River. Take a relaxed drive in the area around the camp and return at 2pm to check in to your chalet.

Day 6

Wake up early and travel along the H1-5, which follows the Letaba River, where many an animal and bird can be spotted in and around the river bed. Arrive at Letaba Camp in time for some breakfast. Letaba Camp also has a restaurant overlooking the river. The Letaba Camp also has an Elephant Hall Museum. The museum covers elephant evolution, biology, behaviour, ecology and research. It also showcases the ivory of eight of Kruger's greatest tuskers (including six of the Magnificent Seven). A visit to the museum is highly recommended. Take a leisurely drive back to Oilfants and relax until it is time to go on your guided Kruger National Park sunset drive. You will get back to camp at around 7:30pm, when you can enjoy a relaxing evening around the camp fire and a traditional South African braai (you can get  supplies from the camp shop before you go out on your game drive).

Day 7

Wake up early and travel back down to Skukuza, where you will spend your last night. Stop off at Satara or Tshokwane for breakfast and arrive in time to enjoy a late lunch at Skukuza. Check in to your chalet for your last night after 2pm. The camp has two swimming pools where you can relax during the day.

There are excellent routes to explore in and around Skukuza in the afternoon, including the famous Lake Panic Hide, which will be given to you in your info pack.

Enjoy your last night in the park, enjoying a relaxing evening around the camp fire, or dinner at the restaurant on the deck. Keeping your eyes open for the Thick-tailed Bushbaby, known in Afrikaans as a Nagaapie- which in direct translation is ‘Night Monkey’, as it is a member of the primate family that is only active at night.
